Convert Landscape Video to Portrait with Captions

Convert Landscape Video to Portrait with Captions

Produce both landscape (16:9) and portrait (9:16) videos from the same recording without re-transcribing. Each format gets its own layout: floating face position, background, and caption placement are configured independently. One transcript, two polished outputs.

How It Works

  1. Choose a format: select landscape (16:9) or portrait (9:16) when creating a project or anytime via the format selector. The canvas and video preview update immediately.

  2. Layout is per-format: switch to portrait and you get a separate set of layout controls. The floating face position, size, background, and caption position all default independently and can be configured separately from the landscape version.

  1. Transcript stays the same: the word-level transcript, edits, styles, and animations are shared across both formats. No re-transcription. Only spatial layout differs.

  2. Configure each format: in portrait, the video content is typically smaller (letterboxed) with a background behind it. Position the floating face in a portrait-friendly spot. Set a portrait-appropriate background image. Move captions to mid-screen instead of bottom if needed.

  1. Export per format: export produces a separate video for each format. The same Remotion rendering pipeline handles both, with the correct layout baked into each output.

Key Details

No re-transcription needed. The transcript is format-independent. Switching between landscape and portrait preserves all word edits, confidence scores, merge/split changes, and style settings.

Caption position can differ. Bottom-center is standard for landscape. In portrait, mid-screen or upper-third may read better. Set the global caption position independently per format.

Floating face scales independently. A 20% bubble in landscape might be too small in portrait. Size, shape, crop, and position are all per-format settings.
