Custom Background for Video Layout

Custom Background for Video Layout

Set the background behind your video content: especially useful in portrait layouts where the video doesn’t fill the full canvas. Choose a solid color, a gradient from the library, or an image. Each scene can have its own background with smooth cross-fade transitions.

How It Works

  1. Open the background picker: find the background settings in the layout configuration panel. Three tabs correspond to the three background types.

  2. Solid color: use the color picker to select any color. Good for clean, minimal looks.

  3. Gradient: browse the gradient library. Select a pre-made gradient or create a custom one. Gradients add visual depth without being distracting.

  1. Image: pick from the built-in image library (3 landscape, 3 portrait images included) or use images from your asset library. Images are rendered as cover (fill the canvas) or contain (fit within the canvas).

  2. Set per scene: each scene’s floating face layout can have its own background. Select a scene in the timeline, then change its background independently.

  1. Cross-fade transitions: when adjacent scenes have different backgrounds, the outgoing background dissolves into the incoming one over ~333ms. This prevents jarring visual jumps between scenes.

Key Details

Built-in backgrounds are always available. 3 landscape and 3 portrait images ship with Velocaption. They can’t be deleted and are always ready in the asset library.

Per-scene backgrounds compose with floating face. The background sits behind both the video content and the floating webcam bubble. It fills the entire canvas: visible in areas the video doesn’t cover (e.g., the bars in a portrait layout).

Gradient library is reusable. Gradients you create or save are available across all projects. The gradient library is managed in the assets section.
