Export Captioned Video Locally

Export Captioned Video Locally

Export produces a single .mp4 with everything baked in: captions, text/image/audio/video overlays, floating webcam bubble, animations, backgrounds, and layout. Remotion renders every frame locally on your machine.

How It Works

  1. Open the export dialog: click the Export button in the captions editor. The dialog shows resolution and quality settings.

  2. Choose resolution and quality: select the output resolution and quality level. Higher settings produce larger files but sharper output.

  1. Start the export: click Export. Remotion begins frame-by-frame rendering. A progress bar shows the percentage complete with an estimate of remaining time.
  1. Wait for completion: rendering happens entirely on your CPU. Duration depends on video length, resolution, and the number of overlays. A 5-minute 1080p video typically exports in 2-10 minutes depending on hardware.

  2. Open the result: when complete, the output .mp4 is ready. Open it in any video player to verify the result.

Key Details

Preview and export are visually identical. Both the live editor preview and the Remotion export use the same rendering code. The applyAnimations function, style resolution, overlay positioning, and text measurement are shared. If it looks right in the preview, it will look right in the export.

Pre-built Remotion bundle. The export uses a pre-compiled Remotion bundle stored in the app resources: not the live source files. This ensures consistent, reproducible rendering regardless of development state. After any composition change, the bundle must be rebuilt with pnpm build:remotion.

Single .mp4 output. The export produces one self-contained .mp4 file. All visual elements: captions, text overlays, image overlays, audio overlays, video overlays, floating face, backgrounds, animations: are baked into the output. No sidecar files, no subtitle tracks, no external dependencies.
