Silence Remover

Cut Dead Air from Your Recording: Timeline Clip Editing

Cut Dead Air from Your Recording

After silence detection, every segment appears as a clip on the timeline. Delete clips to remove dead air, drag edges to adjust boundaries, and preview the result: deleted regions are skipped automatically during playback.

How It Works

  1. Each segment is a clip. Detection splits your audio into clips along the silence boundaries. Speech clips are full-color; silent clips are marked for deletion. The timeline and waveform stay in sync: clicking a clip scrolls the waveform to that position.

  2. Delete clips to remove them. Click a clip to select it, then press Delete (or use the toolbar button). The clip grays out on the timeline. It is not permanently gone: just flagged for removal during export.

  1. Drag edges to adjust boundaries. Hover over the left or right edge of any clip until the resize cursor appears. Drag to extend a speech clip into what was detected as silence, or trim a clip that includes an unwanted breath or hesitation.
  1. Restore deleted clips. Changed your mind? Click a grayed-out deleted clip and press Restore (or the toolbar button). It returns to full-color and will be included in the export again.

  2. Preview with gap skipping. Press Space to play. The player automatically skips deleted regions: you hear only the kept clips stitched together. Use left/right arrow keys to jump between clips.

Key Details

Deleting is non-destructive. Your source files are never modified. Deleted clips are just flagged: restore them at any time before export. Even after export, the original file is untouched.

Keyboard shortcuts speed up the workflow. Space for play/pause, arrow keys to navigate between clips, Delete to remove the selected clip. For large recordings with dozens of pauses, keyboard-driven editing is significantly faster than clicking.

The waveform is your guide. When adjusting clip edges, watch the waveform underneath. Speech shows clear amplitude peaks; silence is flat. Drag the edge to just before the next peak to get a clean cut without clipping the start of a word.
