Screen Recording with Multiple Takes and Scenes

Plan your recording as a sequence of scenes, each with its own script notes. Record as many takes as you need per scene, then pick the best one. No more restarting from the top because you flubbed the intro.

How It Works

  1. Plan your scenes. Before recording, create scenes in the sidebar. Give each a title and write script notes: these notes will appear in the teleprompter during recording.
  1. Start recording scene by scene. Select the first scene and hit record. A countdown (3-2-1) plays before capture begins. The current scene title and take number are visible during recording.

  2. Redo a take when you need it. Not happy with that take? Stop and record another one. Velocaption keeps every take: you’re not overwriting anything. Each take gets its own set of source files.

  1. Review takes after recording. The take review screen lists every take for each scene. Play them back, scrub through, and compare.

  2. Pick the keepers. Select the best take for each scene. Discarded takes stay on disk but won’t flow into the next step.

Key Details

Scene notes feed the teleprompter. Whatever you write in a scene’s notes appears in the auto-scrolling teleprompter strip during recording. Write your notes first, read them while recording.

Takes are non-destructive. Every take is preserved as separate files. Marking a take as “discarded” only affects routing: the files remain untouched.

Selected takes auto-map to editors. When you send scenes to the silence remover or captions editor, each scene arrives with its selected take already attached. No manual file matching.
