Record Screen and Webcam at the Same Time on Mac

Velocaption reads available windows, webcams, microphones, and system audio sources out of the box. It can capture four sources simultaneously: screen or window, webcam, mic, and system audio: each saved as its own file. Nothing is baked together at record time, so you control exactly how they combine later.

How It Works

  1. Open the source panel. In the recorder workspace, the source selection area shows your available screens, windows, webcams, and microphones.

  2. Pick your screen source. Choose either a full display or a specific window. Window mode captures the full display with the target window included: the recording stays stable even if you resize the window.

  1. Select webcam and mic. Choose from detected devices. The webcam and mic lists are populated independently: if your camera is disconnected, the mic list still works.

  2. Preview before recording. Both screen and webcam show live previews. Confirm framing and audio levels before you start.

  1. Start recording. All selected sources begin capturing at once. Each records to its own file:
    • screen.mp4: video only, no audio track
    • webcam.mp4: video only, muted
    • mic.m4a: AAC mono 128 kbps
    • system-audio.m4a: system audio output

Key Details

Sources are independent. If the webcam disconnects mid-recording, the screen and mic tracks keep going. You won’t lose your screen capture because of a USB hiccup.

Window recording uses a fixed canvas. Velocaption locks the capture to the display’s native resolution. Resizing or moving the target window doesn’t change the output resolution or cause cropping artifacts.

Device IDs are matched by label. macOS exposes different device identifiers to different APIs. Velocaption joins them by hardware name, so the webcam you see in the picker is the one that records.
