Convert Video to Portrait with Background
Turn any video into a 9:16 portrait canvas with a filled background. Works on landscape and portrait inputs: detects orientation automatically, centers the content, and fills the rest. Batch-process a whole folder for consistent output.
How It Works
-
Add video files to the queue. Drag them in or use the file picker. Each file shows a brief loading state while its orientation is probed.
-
Choose a background style. Three options:
- Solid color: pick any color with the color picker.
- Gradient: select from the built-in gradient library.
- Blurred: uses a blurred frame from the video itself as the background fill.
-
Set rounded corners. Four presets presented as clickable boxes: None, Small, Medium, Large. The border radius visually matches each box so you can see the effect before processing.
-
Adjust the gutter. The gutter slider controls padding between the video content and the canvas edges. This applies to all input orientations: landscape and portrait alike.
-
Start the queue. Each video processes individually. Progress events track the FFmpeg pipeline (overlay compositing, alpha merging, encoding).
- Re-process if needed. After changing settings, click the rotate icon on any completed or errored item to re-process it with the new configuration. A batch re-process button in the toolbar resets all selected items.
Key Details
Orientation is auto-detected. Each file is probed on add. Landscape videos get vertical bars (top/bottom fill). Portrait videos that are narrower than 9:16 get horizontal fill. The content is always centered.
Gutter applies to every orientation. Whether the input is landscape, square, or portrait, the gutter adds consistent padding around the video content. This prevents the video from touching the canvas edges.
Background gradients come from your library. The gradient picker shows the same gradients available in the captions editor. Add custom gradients there and they appear here automatically.
