Version 1.7.1

Super Smooth Skimming & Audio Polish

Velocaption v1.7.1 introduces a re-engineered skimming protocol for ultra-fluid timeline scrubbing and professional audio feedback on macOS.

Highlights

⚡ Super Smooth Skimming for macOS

We’ve completely re-engineered the timeline scrubbing experience to deliver the fluid responsiveness expected by professional creators. By implementing a dedicated Skimming Protocol, we now bypass the heavy overhead of the main video playback engine during rapid interaction. This optimization ensures that your macOS video editing workflow remains uninterrupted, even when navigating complex project timelines.

  • Engine Bypass: Skimming no longer toggles the global “Play” state, resulting in a 3x reduction in CPU usage during scrubs.
  • Zero UI Lag: Expensive React re-renders are now intelligently suppressed while scrubbing, keeping the interface fluid and responsive.
  • Fluid 30fps Interaction: We’ve increased the interaction frequency to 30fps for a perfectly visual, frame-accurate experience.

🔇 Professional Audio Polish: No More “Helicopter” Sounds

Refining the audio synchronization and feedback layer was a top priority for this release. We’ve eliminated the rhythmic clicking and popping (the “helicopter” sound) that previously occurred during rapid scrubbing, replacing it with organic, meaningful audio cues.

  • Linear Gain Ramping: Every audio pulse now features an ultra-fast 50ms fade-in and 100ms fade-out, ensuring smooth transitions.
  • Organic Feedback: Scrubbing now sounds natural and provides the necessary auditory context for precise editing and silence removal without mechanical artifacts.

Improvements & Fixes

  • Multi-Clip Visual Sync: Fixed a synchronization bug where skimming across clip boundaries would show the correct audio but get stuck on an old video frame. Visuals now swap to the correct clip during multi-track editing.
  • Extended Audio Snippets: Increased the skimming audio pulse duration to 250ms for a fuller, more readable “chirp” sound, aiding in word-level accuracy.
  • Silence Skipper Logic: The auto-skipper now correctly backs off while you are manually skimming to prevent control conflicts and ensure a predictable editing experience.
