Version 1.6.0

Multi-Clip Editing & Silence Remover

Velocaption v1.6.0 introduces multi-clip support for the Silence Remover, manual cutting tools, and enhanced captions editing for macOS creators.

🚀 Major Improvements

Silence Remover 2.0: Multi-Clip Support for macOS

The Silence Remover now supports multi-clip editing workflows for fast video editing on macOS. You can import multiple video files and process them together.

  • Multi-Clip Management: Add, remove, and reorder clips directly in the timeline. Automatic silence detection runs across every clip in the project.
  • Manual Cutting Tools: Take full control of your edit. Introduce cuts at the exact playhead position instantly by pressing B or using the split button, perfect for refining your jump cuts.
  • Manual Silence Marking: Select specific chunks of a clip and press Delete (or the trash button) to manually mark them as silence. This gives you granular control over what to keep, ensuring your video pacing is perfect.
  • Critical Sync Fix: We’ve resolved audio/video desync issues and “stuck” playback when transitioning between different clips, ensuring a smooth preview experience.

Captions Editor Improvements

We’ve streamlined the overlay editing workflow to help you caption videos faster. Whether you are adding subtitles for social media or creating professional presentations, these updates will speed up your process.

  • Quick Timing Shortcuts: Set the precise Start and End times of any selected overlay with S and E keyboard shortcuts. This mimics professional NLEs, allowing for rapid-fire timing adjustments.
  • Smart Overlay Placement: Newly added overlays now default to the current playhead position, making it easier to caption on the fly as you watch your video.
  • Enhanced Overlay Styles:
    • New Text Style Presets: Choose from reusable text styles for caption and overlay treatments.
    • Visual Asset Picker: Improved visualization of transparency and font weights in the asset picker helps you make better design decisions quickly.

🛠️ Enhancements & Fixes

Timeline & UI Precision

  • Frame-Locked Playhead: The playhead is now rock-solid, staying perfectly synced with the waveform during scroll. This ensures frame-accurate editing for professional results.
  • Live Time Code: A new playhead badge displays the exact millisecond timestamp during playback, giving you the precision needed for fine-tuning edits.
  • Skimmer Accuracy: Keyboard shortcuts now prioritize your mouse’s “skimmer” position. Hover over the timeline to make splits or adjustments without moving the main playhead—a workflow favorite for power users.
  • Unified UI Design: We’ve polished the interface for both the Silence Remover and Captions editors, enforcing consistent spacing and tooltips for a more intuitive macOS app experience.

System & Stability

  • Persistent Export Settings: Your preferred export configuration (resolution, format, etc.) is now saved and automatically restored on app launch, streamlining your rendering workflow.
  • Error Recovery: A redesigned, unified error screen helps you recover gracefully if the app encounters a critical failure, preventing data loss.
  • Changelog Link: Added a direct link to this changelog in the System Updates page, so you never miss a new feature.

Under the Hood

  • High-Performance Video Engine: We’ve completed a full rewrite of our playback core (GaplessVideoEngine). It now handles complex transitions with ease and ensures frame-perfect sync across multiple clips.
  • Optimized Resource Management: The new VideoPool architecture significantly reduces memory usage when working with large projects or many clips, making Velocaption smoother on all Mac devices.
