Version 1.4.0

The Text Overlays Update

Add styled text to your videos with the new multi-track editor and experience real-time skimming preview on macOS.

Velocaption v1.4.0 introduces a massive upgrade to our video editing capabilities with the arrival of Text Overlays and a dedicated multi-track timeline. This update empowers creators to add a professional touch to their videos directly within the app on macOS.

✨ New: Text Overlays & Multi-Track Editing

You can now add, style, and animate text layers directly on top of your video footage. This is perfect for adding headers, lower thirds, or explanatory notes without needing to switch to a complex NLE.

  • Dedicated Overlay Timeline: Manage multiple layers of text with precision. Our non-destructive editing approach ensures you can always tweak your designs later.
  • Real-time Skimming Preview: We’ve introduced a high-performance skimming engine. Scrubbing through your timeline now renders all captions and overlays in real-time, providing instant visual feedback.

🛠️ Workflow & Performance Improvements

We’ve also focused on making the transition between different editing modes as smooth as possible.

  • Unified Export: The “Apply Captions” feature has been expanded to support burning both subtitles and text overlays into your final video using optimized FFmpeg encoding.
  • Optimized Proxy Generation: Moving from the Silence Remover to the Captions editor is now non-blocking, keeping the interface responsive even on high-resolution projects.

🐛 Stability Fixes

  • Project Isolation: Data integrity has been improved by scoping text overlays strictly to their respective project files.
  • Infinite Loop Fix: Resolved a critical issue that could cause the interface to hang during mode transitions.
  • State Preservation: We’ve fixed a bug where waveforms or proxy files would disappear by improving how background task states are preserved.
