Version 2.8.3

Fixing Remotion Playback Crashes and UI Stability

We've resolved critical Remotion playback crashes and improved rendering stability in our macOS video editor, ensuring a smoother captioning and export experience.

🐛 Improved Stability & Bug Fixes

This update focuses on reinforcing the core rendering engine and UI responsiveness of Velocaption, our professional video editing tool for macOS.

Resolving Remotion Playback Crashes

We fixed a recurring crash in the Remotion engine where the inputRange was not strictly monotonically increasing. This issues was particularly prevalent when editing short video clips or when handling complex fade transitions. We’ve implemented specific fixes across four key areas:

  • Audio Overlay: Optimized fade keyframes to handle ultra-short durations.
  • SplitScreenRenderer: Refined slide animation logic.
  • FloatingFaceRenderer: Stabilized background and bubble fade animations.
  • Caption Segment Interpolation: Fixed position calculation for overlapping segments.

Accurate Text Overlay Previews

The text overlay system is a cornerstone of our automatic captioning workflow. We’ve fixed a bug where the font size slider in the editor would occasionally desync from the exported video. The maxFontSize property is now correctly resolved in both the real-time preview and the final render, ensuring what you see is exactly what you get.

Smooth Progress Indicators

The “Generating preview video” progress bar has been stabilized. We now ignore stale or out-of-order FFmpeg progress events that previously caused the bar to oscillate or move backwards, providing a more reliable feedback loop during the video editing process.

🧪 Robust Testing

To prevent regressions in our core interpolation logic, we’ve added 9 new unit tests specifically for getSegmentPosition. These tests cover critical edge cases, including 1-frame segments that previously triggered interpolation errors.
