How to Record Your Screen Online
Click record, choose what to capture (entire screen, a specific window, or a browser tab), and optionally enable microphone audio. When you stop, trim the recording if needed and export as MP4. The entire workflow runs in your browser with no extensions or installs required.
This online screen recorder is ideal for bug reports, quick tutorials, product demos, and async feedback. If you also need your face in the recording, use the webcam recorder and combine the clips in your editor.
Screen Capture API and Browser Permissions
The tool uses the Screen Capture API (getDisplayMedia) to request access to your display. Your browser will prompt you to choose which screen, window, or tab to share. This is a deliberate security gate. No website can record your screen without your explicit permission.
Microphone access uses a separate permission via getUserMedia. Both streams are combined during recording and re-encoded via WebCodecs on export. The result is a properly structured MP4 with fast-start metadata that plays correctly everywhere.
Why Record Your Screen in the Browser?
Native screen recorders like OBS or QuickTime are powerful but heavy. For a quick capture, a browser-based screen recorder opens quickly and produces clean MP4 output without configuration. Your recording never touches a remote server.
After recording, you can trim the video or compress it before sharing. For adding captions and subtitles to screen recordings, explore Velocaption. See all free tools on the tools page.
