Version 3.1.1

Recording Reliability Improvements

Recording reliability updates with first-frame readiness, pipeline pre-warming, and hardware-accelerated H.264 encoding.

Unshakable Recording Reliability

This update tightened the capture engine so screen and webcam recordings start with valid audio and video frames before editing or captioning begins.

First-Frame Readiness & Pre-Warming

We’ve implemented a first-frame readiness gate. Recording no longer starts until all video and audio sources have delivered their first complete frame. This prevents silent or artifact-ridden captures at the beginning of a take.

In addition, we’ve added pre-warming during the countdown. Encoders and capture pipelines now initialize fully during the countdown phase, ensuring that the very first recorded frame is clean, synced, and perfectly prepped for editing.

Smarter Capture Recovery

Have you ever accidentally closed and reopened a window during a recording session? We’ve addressed this with stale window ID recovery. If a target window is closed and reopened between takes, Velocaption’s capture source automatically re-resolves the correct window before the subsequent recording begins, securing your workflow against unexpected interruptions.

Hardware-Accelerated H.264 Encoding

For users on Apple Silicon Macs, we now strongly enforce hardware H.264 encoding with IOSurface backing. By utilizing IOSurface-backed pixel buffers, we guarantee GPU-accelerated encoding, radically reducing CPU overhead and keeping your Mac running cool even during extended high-resolution capture sessions.

Timeout Validation

Lastly, we introduced a readiness timeout and output validation system. On the rare occasion a video source fails to become ready in time, the recording will abort with a clear error prompt—saving you from discovering an empty or corrupt file at the end of a long take. Reliable video editing starts with safe capture.
